Read Later saves web pages as clean, readable articles into a private, full-text-searchable library stored entirely in your browser. There is no account, no cloud sync, and no analytics. It is built as a local replacement for Pocket, and can import your Pocket export.

Permissions
What each requested permission is used for.

| storage / unlimitedStorage | Stores your saved articles, their read/archived state, and your settings locally in the browser. |
| activeTab + scripting | Reads the content of the page you are on only when you click Save (or use the shortcut), to extract the article text. |
| contextMenus | Adds the "Save link to Read Later" item to the right-click menu. |
| Host access: <all_urls> (optional, off by default) | Only requested if you use "Fetch article" on an imported link; lets the extension load that page in the background to extract its text. You can decline or revoke it anytime. |
